Who is Darryl Akens
Darryl Akens has always been fascinated with imitating voices since the early age of 3 years old, especially deep voices. As he grew older he started imitated the likes of John Facenda, the narrator for NFL films; Eddie Barth, the voice over for Lite Beer from Miller commercials as well as James Earl Jones and Paul Robeson. Darryl is a very versatile and multi-talented Voice Over Artist. His voice range is phenomenal! His natural deep baritone voice can be soothing to listen to where he can imitate the voice of Morgan Freeman or even Peter Cullen's voice for Optimus Prime. He has also been told that he sounds like John Fontaine, the movie trailer Voice Over Artist and Christopher Judge, the Voice Over Artist from the video game "The God of War." But in a quick second he can change from a baritone voice to a high-pitched voice to imitate cartoon characters such as Mickey Mouse. Yes, he can imitate all these voices and many more! He can even sing using his own voice or sing in character as well. He has been told that he can sing spot on when imitating Nat King Cole, Jack Jones and many other famous singers. Darryl attended
Kalmenson & Kalmenson to study voice acting and took an acting class at The Groundlings as well. He has narrated a Monster Jam Promo, but he can do it all - Animation, Audiobooks, Documentaries, Dubbing, eLearning, Movie Trailers, Online Ads, Radio Ads, Television Ads, Video Games and Video Narrations.
Who is Pamela Colen?
Pamela Colen currently teaches for Los Angeles Unified School District in Los Angeles, California and was nominated for two years in a row for Teacher of the Year for the 2021-2022 school year and also for the 2022-2023 school year. She has taught grades from preschool to high school for over 25 years. She attended California State University, Los Angeles where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Child Development along with a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential in 1995. In 2014 she returned to California State University , Los Angeles to complete a second teaching credential for Special Education, Early Childhood Education.
She first became interested in becoming a teacher when she was 5 years old. At 5 years old she used to pretend to be the teacher and have her siblings act as the students. She would use a ruler to point to an alphabet poster posted on the wall in their home and have them sing the alphabet song with her.
Recently, Pamela noticed, due to the Covid Pandemic, many students were falling behind and especially in reading. She decided to be part of the solution by
opening The Virtual Reading Room. She offers low-cost virtual tutoring services to help students improve their reading skills. Pamela's goal is have each student reach their highest potential and have a love for reading.
Who is Tanveer Khan?
Tanveer Khan is a skilled and passionate video editor from Pakistan with over 4 years of experience in creating engaging and educational content. He specializes in Adobe After Effects, Adobe Illustrator, and Filmora, combining creativity with technical expertise to produce high-quality videos for children’s media and storytelling platforms. With a strong eye for detail and a love for animation, Tanveer brings stories to life in fun, meaningful, and visually captivating ways. He’s proud to contribute to The Virtual Reading Room as part of a mission to inspire and educate young minds through video.

Travis
Who is Travis?
Travis is a very spunky and inquisitive
5-year old hand puppet voiced by the one and only Darryl Akens himself. Travis enjoys learning new things and is never afraid to ask questions. He loves going to school and is very social and friendly with everyone; even though he sometimes has trouble with turn-taking and sharing toys with his classmates. Travis has a great imagination and often daydreams about being in space in his favorite spaceship-themed desk.
